March is finally here and The 2012 Philadelphia International Flower Show – ‘Hawaii: Islands of Aloha’ is about to begin! Running Sunday, March 4 through Sunday, March 11 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Flower Show will feature many gorgeous garden displays, featured presentations,  and showcase exhibitors.  For a list of all of the exhibits, visit the International Flower Show Exhibits Page. Here is a brief synopsis of what to expect:

Again this year, more than 60 professional landscapers, florists, and horticultural organizations have spent on average 18 months in advance planning and nurturing plants for the 2012 Flower Show. They have created life-sized floral presentations and gardens that will amaze and enchant visitors from around the world.

These expert designers are competing for that treasured “Best in Show” for their individual categories, in addition to many other awards. They have worked very hard and strategically forced a wide array of plants into bloom in preparation for this 8 day Hawaii Islands of Aloha extravaganza, anticipating a record breaking crowd in excess of the 265, 000 visitors that attended in 2011.

Spring Display of Boxwoods with a Sea of Myosotis - Aardweg Landscaping

Leading the list of major exhibitors is the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society sponsoring the 2012 Central Feature, entitled “Hawaii: Islands of Aloha” it was designed and created by Waldor Orchids, of Linwood, New Jersey. Flower Show visitors will encounter the central “Hawaii: Islands of Aloha” feature upon arrival and be presented with a visual display of crashing waves and one of the biggest assemblies of white orchids and anthuriums ever gathered in one place. Showcasing more than 2,000 orchids, including everything from dendrobiums to vandas; the feature will also include a variety of native and tropical plants.

Quoting the website, “Towering palms, bamboo, and a tropical plant canopy will immerse visitors in the Hawaiian rainforest. A 25-foot-high waterfall will splash down into Pele’s Garden, an island of exotic flowers and plants where performers will conjure volcanic flames and the Fire Goddess.” Many of the exhibits are described in detail on the Flower Show blog. For more information about tickets and directions, visit the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society website.
