Front Yard Landscaping Ideas for Your Home

If you’ve heard the term “curb appeal,” you likely realize the impact that the way the front of your home looks has on its overall value. While fresh paint and shutters go a long way to raise the image of your house, a front yard appointed with a few thoughtful landscaping ideas can go even further to create the image of a welcoming home.Front Yard Landscaping Ideas for Your Main Line Philadelphia Home

Flowers make a front yard feel inviting to visitors and passers by. Using a variety of bright, bold colors makes a huge impact on even a tiny lawn. You may be able to plant flowers on the parking strip — the grassy area between the road and the sidewalk — depending on your municipality; however, plant size and distance from fire hydrants may be limited.

Your guests may approach the front door using a walkway. Dressing up the path is an easy way to make a stylish statement. If your walkway needs repair or you don’t have one at all, you can create one using beautiful materials like brick or flagstone. Gentle curves make walkways appear soft and gentle rather than stark in contrast to the lawn. Adorn the sides of the walkway with easy-care plants for added beauty.

If your front yard features a slope, plant an array of ground covers, grasses and annuals to create an inviting landscape. Using plants on a slope rather than grass is one of the most popular landscaping ideas for homes on a hill because they make a home look more grand. Also, this eliminates the often-difficult task of mowing the steep slope.

Evergreen plants add beauty to your front yard throughout the year. If pine trees are the only thing that comes to mind, you may be excited to know that there are a variety of evergreen plants, including shrubs and ground cover, and some varieties even flower in the spring. Contact Aardweg Landscaping today to transform your front yard into a welcoming lawn with these or other landscaping ideas. We proudly serve the Philadelphia Main Line, including Radnor Township, Tredyffrin Township, Easttown Township, East Whiteland Township, Malvern Borough, Willistown Township and Philadelphia.

2012 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Fall Garden Festival

After the success of last year’s event, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has announced that it will be holding another Fall Garden Festival this year.  The date is Saturday, September 22, 2012, and this free event will take place at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, located at 4747 South Broad Street.

2012 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Fall Garden Festival

Come to the 2012 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Fall Garden Festival at the Philadelphia Navy Yard!

The festival highlights local businesses and nature in unison. There will be numerous vendors selling food and beverages, crafts, and artistic, garden and landscaping items; while the beauty of the region’s plant life will be proudly displayed throughout the Navy Yard.

Local produce gardeners can enter their harvest into the Garden Giants contests that reward the biggest pumpkin, tomato and other fruits and vegetables. Alternatively, floral gardeners can enter their best arrangement of fall annuals and perennials in the Garden Bounty contest. The food collected from these contests will be donated to the PHS City Harvest program, which benefits the hungry in our community.

Children’s activities, designed to engage young ones in gardening and the beauty of nature, will be available throughout the day. In addition, there will be several garden workshops, where homeowners can learn how to implement some of the most popular landscaping ideas into their own outdoor spaces.

While there will be several plant and seed vendors on location, PHS members have access to free plants from the Plant Dividend. There are also several other exclusive member benefits, including advance tree sales.

Aardweg Landscaping is excited about this event, and looks forward to discussing the many ideas that home and business owners will discover at the PHS Fall Garden Festival. Whether you find inspiration while attending workshops, or simply by experiencing the festivities, we can help turn your landscaping ideas into reality!

Magical Transformation in Your Main Line Landscape Design

Have you ever imagined how the landscape ideas you see on TV, online or in your scenic travels would look at your Philadelphia Main Line home or business? If so, professional landscapers like Aardweg Landscaping can help you develop and implement a magical transformation in your landscape; from consultation, through to creating a reality out of your ideas.Magical Transformations - Main Line Landscape Design

First, your landscaper will sit down with you and listen to your desires, from plants to construction materials. In addition, the unique features of your property will be assessed so that any potential obstacles can be accommodated. It is important to be as specific as possible during the consultation process so that your landscaper can give you reasonable estimates of time and monetary investments. Each element, from outdoor kitchens to water features, has different requirements of your land and your wallet.

Once you and your landscaper finalize the details, your magical transformation landscaping ideas will begin to take form. First, drawings or photographic images will be drawn to give you an overall impression of what the finished lawn will look like. Upon your approval, these designs are turned into construction blueprints, including hardscaping elements, irrigation systems, lighting schemes and more. Next, your landscaper will submit these designs to obtain all of the necessary permits for creating your new outdoor space.

Whether you want simple flower beds or an elaborate construction with walkways, fountains and garden seating areas, it is important to hire a landscaper with experience working within your community. Seek a landscaping design company with the expertise to not only design, but to build and maintain your landscaping elements. Nearly anyone can create a beautiful outdoor concept, but only a local professional has familiarity with the unique needs of your land and has solid relationships with local distributors and contractors, which can save you time and money.

Aardweg Landscaping has been turning dream landscaping ideas into magical transformations for more than 30 years. Serving the Philadelphia Main line with integrity and exceptional customer service, the Aardweg landscapers are known for their professionalism and knowledgeable expertise.

Using Photographic Image Design for Main Line Philadelphia Landscape Planning

Aardweg Landscaping Photographic Image DesignThey say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but when it comes to landscaping, a picture may be worth considerably more than that. With traditional landscape design plans, the two-dimensional drawing leaves plenty to the imagination of the property owner. Let’s face it: Not everyone has the ability to create an accurate mental image from these basic blueprints. When you plan to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to alter the landscape of your Philadelphia Main Line home or business property, you want to be certain that you know exactly what your money is going to buy.

There is a way to get a better idea of what your property will look like after landscaping. Some professional landscapers — and Aardweg Landscaping is no exception — offer the option of photographic image design to their customers. Real photographs of your home or property are taken and altered to include the elements of the landscape design you discuss during your consultation. Plant size, shape and density are shown to scale, just as they will be implemented. These full-color images give a much more accessible estimate of how the landscaping will change the look and feel of your outdoor area. If you have questions or would like to request a change, identifying the areas of concern is simple with a photographic image of your landscape design.

The professional team at Aardweg Landscaping has photographic image design expertise. Owner Steven Aardweg will come to you personally and discuss your landscape design ideas during a free consultation session. Graphic artists manipulate photographs of your home or property, adding patios, plants, flower beds and more, according to your unique specifications.

For more than 30 years, Aardweg Landscaping has transformed the outdoor spaces of Philadelphia Main Line homes and businesses, creating beautiful landscapes and hardscapes for thousands of satisfied customers. Contact us today to set up a free consultation, and allow us to create a preview of your property with photographic image design, drawings or traditional blueprints, according to your wishes.

Landscaping Ideas for Small Yards

Landscaping Ideas for Small Yards

Some yards have plenty of horizontal space, but your best bet with a small yard is to build from the ground up.

Container gardening gives you the unique opportunity to use a variety of heights in your outdoor landscape design, and many containers are visually appealing pieces. It is also very easy to rearrange a container garden to accommodate for company or a simple change in scenery.

Raised garden beds, trellis-climbing plants and wall-mounted fountains all work very well in limited space.

Color plays an important role in small outdoor spaces, just as it does indoors. Dark and warm colors can make your yard seem even more diminutive than it truly is, but cool, light colors add a larger feeling to limited areas. Use blues, whites and violets to create an airy, open feel. Dwarf evergreen trees, such as the Japanese white pine, are a great addition to a small yard or patio landscape design.

If you have a black thumb, your small yard might be the perfect place for a Japanese garden, featuring rocks, sand, gravel and water with few plants. Rock gardens fit in the smallest of spaces, creating a serene getaway. With locally available rocks, sand and plant life, your Japanese landscape design can save time and money while still optimizing your tiny yard.

Aardweg Landscaping has served the Philadelphia Main Line for over 30 years. Whether your property is large or small, the professional team at Aardweg Landscaping can help you make the most of what you have. Fall Landscape Design Ideas for Main Line Philadelphia Homes

Many homeowners and business owners focus their landscaping elements on what their property will look like in the spring and summer, but the fall offers its own unique color palette. With proper planning, the autumn months can turn your Philadelphia Main Line yard into a gorgeous showcase of vibrant life. The following landscaping ideas are easy ways to create an alluring fall scene on your own property.

Serviceberry Shrub

Mums are the quintessential fall flower, but there are many other blossoms whose colors will brighten your lawn, planters or flower beds. Perennial fall flower favorites include anemone, clematis, sedum and autumn crocus. Autumn annuals, including majestic sunflowers, asters and violas, should be planted in the late summer so that they bloom through the fall months.

Your shrub hedge can bear the beauty of the season, as well. Burning bush is a popular fall shrub, but viburnums and oak leaf hydrangeas have beautiful flowers in addition to lush foliage. Some property owners use fruit-bearing shrubs, such as blueberry and serviceberry, as great landscaping ideas that add to an autumn outdoor area with stunning colors.

Among all of the various deciduous plants, maple trees bear some of the most stunning hues of the autumn. If you have a large outdoor space, you may be able to plant a red or sugar maple; however, smaller yards are perfect homes for diminutive Japanese maple trees, the leaves of which turn a deep red. Other great tree options to complete your fall landscaping ideas are stewartia and dogwood, which bear red fruit late in the season.

Aardweg Landscaping has the expertise to optimize your personal or business property for every season with a variety of native and exotic species that add beauty and value to your outdoor space all year long. For longer than 30 years, the team at Aardweg has served the Philadelphia Main Line with professional and personal care, customizing each job to the unique needs of the home or business owner.
